CCTST - Redesigning a Translational Research Portal
Goal
Redesign portal to meet needs of all stakeholders interested in translational research.
Background
The Center for Clinical and Translational Science and Training (CCTST) is a multi-organization (UC and CCHMC) portal aiming to provide resources for researchers and staff to accelerate research and development.

Timeline January - July 2019
Discovery
The first task was to map the existing CCTST portal to and conduct a heuristic analysis to identify areas of opportunity for improvement.
Identify
Who are we designing for?
We conducted expert interviews with 12 people who had contributed/worked on the portal for the past few years. Four personas emerged from this research.
Card Sorting
Although the content stakeholders were interested in was available in the website, they were not able to find it due to labeling, navigation and usability issues. To learn about users’ mental models, we conducted a card sorting activity with 13 users representing all four personas.
Results
We compiled the findings from the card sorting and interviews and translated them into research artifacts to guide design and development.
Wireframing
Employing a user-centered approach, we worked started designing the user interface for the new portal.
Design Refinement
Refined wireframes and designed a fully-fledged interface. To see the live site, click here.
