SMARTApp - Engaging teens in treatment adherence
Goal
Create a strategy for teenagers to be motivated and engaged in keeping with treatment adherence.
Background
SMARTApp is an interdisciplinary project aiming to provide digital tools for Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) teenager patients to gain ownership and control over their own health.
Team
Kevin Hommel, PhD Principal Investigator, Andrew Rupert Software Architect, Michael Taylor Developer, Karen Lapthorn Program Manager, Adriana Navarro UX Design and Research.
Timeline January - May 2020
Discovery
Kicked off the project with a co-designing workshop with the team and experts to find out more about users needs and preferences. We identified two main users which are represented as user personas.
We created a strategy based on gamification principles to engage users in a 4 week challenge to keep up with adherence and log diary entries, sleep, and learn more about IBD.
Design
Informed by insights from collaborative sessions, we crafted a mobile user interface for users to enroll in the challenges and enter daily data.
Refinement
Informed by user input, we refined the interface and created a working prototype which will serve as a guide for development.
